Application of Base Coats, including Special and No-Wipe
Here are all the secrets and tips from LCI Cosmetics on applying Base Coats, including special and non-wipe formulas.
Below is the entire procedure listed in key points.
Required products and accessories: Pressed cotton pad, Orange wood sticks, UV/Led lamp, Buffer 100/180, Brush, Base Coat (any LCI Base), FluidPro Remover
1 - Take the finishing block and uniformly buff the nail.
2 - Now, first with the brush, then with a cotton pad moistened with FluidPro (ACETONE), clean the nail surface of dusty residues.
3 - Apply the Nail Prep (degreaser) first, and after a couple of minutes (allowing the NailPrep to air dry), apply the Primer (again, wait for the Primer to air dry for a few minutes).
4 - Apply a THIN and EVEN layer of Base (Classic, HemaFree, DryFix, Restructura), being careful not to touch the cuticles. Do not leave any part of the nail uncovered by the base. Check carefully by looking at the surface against the light. Cure in an LED lamp for 120 seconds.
5 - Wipe off the dispersion (sticky layer) or excess product, by quickly swiping each nail with a pad soaked (but not too much) in FluidPro (acetone).
6 - At this point, lightly buff the surface of the nails with a 180 grit buffer. At this stage, if we are not satisfied with the shape of the nails, we can still refine them with a file. Remove the product dust using a brush.
Now we are ready to proceed with the application of the Semi-permanent Color.
Frequent questions
What is the difference between LCI bases?
Classic, DryFix, and HemaFree Base are the classic base coats used for semi-permanent gel polish. For specific uses such as extensions, fixing ridges or imperfections on the nail surface, or for creating a reinforced semi-permanent manicure, Special Bases are available.
Does the application method change?
No, in this video we demonstrate a method and tips suitable for the application of all base coats and special bases.
How many base coats do I need to apply?
Just one coat is enough, provided that it is even—meaning it leaves no part of the nail surface without product—and thin.
Is it mandatory to use Primer and Nail Prep?
It is not mandatory, but highly recommended. The nail naturally develops an oily layer that prevents the base coat from adhering properly. By using Nail Prep and Primer, we drastically reduce this oiliness, ensuring excellent adhesion.
Why does the base coat sometimes lift or not cure properly?
To prevent these issues, we recommend following the steps very meticulously. Only by paying close attention to all the listed guidelines will you achieve a flawless result.
Which base should I choose for a reinforced semi-permanent manicure?
We suggest Restructura, which is a Gum Base ideal for this purpose, or, for those who want an even stronger structure, we recommend Monolite, which is a base enriched with nylon fibers.
Does LCI semi-permanent gel polish come off with a wrap (Soak Off) or with a nail drill?
It depends on which base you use. All classic bases (Classic, Hema Free, DryFix) and Restructura are Soak Off, meaning they can be removed using the acetone wrap method; Monolite and Infinity must be removed with the help of an electric nail drill.
